Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world and has over a billion active users monthly. It is a great tool to promote your business online and communicate with your customers! This post series will give you detailed tips how to make the most out of your Instagram profile when it comes to marketing your business. The first post will provide you information on how to set up the account and what are the first steps of starting to build a successful instagram account. Let’s get started!

1. Create a business profile

Instagram has separate profiles tailored for businesses, so make sure to sure to use this one! There are many benefits for using the business profile. For example, it allows your customers to get in contact with you, makes it possible to publish ads and offers tools which provides statistics on your posts and followers.

To get started, just open your settings and click on “Switch to Professional account”.






2. Make sure to include your contact details

This may seem obvious, but this is an important step to make sure your customers can contact you. You can add an email address, a phone number and of course the physical address of your business if you have one.

3. Write an interesting bio

A good bio tells your followers what your business is about, but isn’t too long (or too boring). Instagram allows you to type 150 characters, but it is best to keep it short and simple. Remember you can communicate on Instagram in less formal matter than in your website or LinkedIn profile. You can spice up your bio for example using emojis or adding a cheeky joke. And don’t forget to add a link to your website!



4. Think about your target customers

Think about what kind of audience you want to reach and what kind of content appeals to them. Give thought to what kind of message you want to send to your followers and what are you trying to achieve with your instagram profile. Clear goals will help you to stay on track when posting your content!

5. Be active and start following other accounts

Once your account is up and running, it’s best to start using it actively right from the start. Start following potential customers and hashtags related to your business. You might want to check out what kind of content of your competitors are posting and look for an inspiration from other popular accounts.

6. Start posting!

Think about creative ways of promoting your business and try different things. Try to use pictures to give new ideas on how and when to use your product or services. For example if you are a food company, post inspiring recipes and show the customer how to use your products. You will learn by doing and will figure out what kind of content works for your target audience.
