How To Use Instagram Insights

Welcome back to our post series about tips on marketing your business on Instagram! Today we are going to teach you the basics on how to use Instagram Insight, which is is a free analytic tool available for Instagram business accounts. With Insights you can measure the performance of your post, learn more about your followers' demographics and see how your content is being received by your audience. This post gives you the basic understanding of Insights tool, so you can start tracking how well you are reaching your target audience.

How to Access Insights?

To access Insights, open the navigation bar on the top right corner of your Instagram profile and click Insights.




Insights has three tabs containing different kind of information: Content, Activity and Audience. Let's go through these one-by-one to see what kind of information you can access via Insights.


Content

The first of the three tabs is content. Under this tab you can see the overview about your content and insights about the individual post on your profile. The information is given separately for posts on your feed, stories and promotions. From here you can easily see which posts reached the most audience, since the view is ordered by number of times that the posts were seen. With this information you can learn what kind of content is the most popular and gets the most views.



Activity

The next tab is Activity, which is split into two sections: Discovery and Interactions.

Discovery is a set of insights that measures how many users see your content.

  • Reach measures the number of unique accounts that have seen any of yours posts.

  • Impressions reflect the total of times that all of your posts have been seen.

Interactions is a set of insights that measures the actions that users take when they engage with your account.

  • Profile visits counts the number of times that your profile was viewed.

  • Website clicks shows the number of clicks on the website on your profile.




Activity

The third tab is activity, which shows you how your account is growing, key demographics of your followers and what times your followers are most active on Instagram.

  • Growth

Shows you the overall number of accounts that follows you and gives you information on new users that started following you or unfollowed you within your selected time frame.


  • Top locations

Here you can see where your followers are from. You can view the followers by towns/cities or on the level of countries.


  • Age range

Here you can see what age group your followers belong to. You can see the data for all followers or sort the results by gender.


  • Gender

The pie chart shows you the distribution of your followers.


  • Followers

This data shows you the average time when your followers are on instagram. The data is available for both days of the week and the hours of the day. By tracking this section you will learn when it is the best time to post to reach maximum number of audience.




The more you track your insights, the more you learn about your followers. Use the data to optimize your content for your target audience and modify it to please your followers and make the most out of your business account.
